Designing this school library was an interesting challenge for us as an architectural studio. Two key factors shaped the design: multifunctionality and modularity. This is a space frequently used by the high school's students, where they spend a lot of time, so we aimed to make it as pleasant and relaxing as possible. The goal for this space was to become a small youth center for studying, reading, and hosting events and presentations.

Shapes, Textures, Colors
The shapes range from more rigid to amorphous, depending on their function and where they are placed within the room. The first type of work tables is trapezoidal and is set in the long, narrow section near the books, while the other tables have fluid forms and are located in the more open area near the library entrance. The texture of the wood adds a warm, homelike feeling to the space and works well when the interior features multiple colors. To prevent the space from feeling too serious or monotonous, we added plants and vibrant shades of yellow, pink, and orange. These same colors were used in a mural painted on the central wall of the library.

Modularity and Functionality
The trapezoidal tables can be arranged next to each other to form a continuous long conference table suitable for meetings. They can also be separated and used individually. These tables can be stacked when the space needs to be cleared for movement. Additionally, they can be grouped in pairs to form hexagons (for small group work), arranged side by side in a semicircle (for presentations), etc. This allows for various scenarios using the same furniture.
The second type of tables features amorphous shapes. These tables have built-in shelves, providing extra space for books. The construction also includes stools that can be tucked away to avoid obstructing movement. The curves of the tables are carefully designed to allow for individual work or group activities in smaller or larger groups.
We designed the bookshelves as frames to optimize space and accommodate a larger collection of books. The shelves include semicircular seating areas, ideal for reading and relaxation. The shelves are enclosed with sliding doors made of vertical wooden slats, visually elongating the space. We positioned the shelves perpendicular to the windows to allow as much natural light as possible to enter, while seating areas near the windows offer views of the surrounding high school landscape.
